Philosophy and Approach:  It is my goal to assist people in attaining the highest quality life style possible for them.  I believe that all people have the right to the opportunity to achieve quality interdependent lives.  Some lack this opportunity for a number of different reasons; (e.g. background, social educational skill development and environmental issues). But pain or difficulty does have to equal suffering. I have also found that often people do not need to develop additional cognitive insight to make significant improvements in their lives. They often already know what to do, but may simply need help or guidance on how to do it. Behavioral skills training can often make a significant difference. Thus, I rely almost entirely on (evidence based) ACT and DBT skills sets, although at times I will draw on other Cognitive Behavioral approaches to meet peoples individual needs. When working with couples I tend to rely heavily on Gottman’s model which is well researched as well.

Formal Education and Training: I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling (M.C.) in “Marriage and Family Therapy” (MFT) obtained at the San Diego, CA campus of the University of Phoenix.  I have well over 30 years of experience in the mental health field. I have worked in the areas of crisis intervention, individual and group treatments and the civil commitment process. I am a clinical supervisor and have a certificate from the University of Michigan (school of social work) in the integration of mental health and primary care medicine.

Licensing:  I am a licensed “Marriage and Family Therapist,” (LMFT) registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (license #T0809).  As a licensee of the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists, I will abide by its Code of Ethics. As such I am also required to complete and report a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education credit ever two years when I renew my license. These 40 hours include; 6 hours of ethics, 3 in cultural awareness and another 3 in providing clinical supervision to students and license applicants.

Fees:  I am currently accepting many insurance coverage programs. I also have a sliding fee scale available for those with need, but without insurance. I will do whatever I can to provide services to anyone who needs them. No service fee will be expected without prior disclosure of cost and payment options.
